Learn To Row

Necessary for all first time rowers (18+), this six week class covers the basics of sweep rowing. This class serves as introduction to rowing, navigating Lake Whatcom and learning how WRA operates. Exceptions can be made for more experienced rowers. Email the program director at wradirector@gmail.com to discuss the class that what would work best for you when joining WRA.

*Membership to the WRA is not required for the Learn to Row class. It is required for Intermediate class!

*Learn to row is for ages 18+, if you are younger and want to learn how to row, please use the Juniors tab to get started!

Learn To Row Classes

WRA 2017 Learn to Row 

Rowing is one of the best ways to exercise today. Your whole body is involved in the rowing stroke, yet there is no hard impact on any one joint. You are challenged both mentally and physically to work as an individual and with your team. You will learn technique, strength and love of the sport.
Practices are held Tuesday and Thursdays 6:00pm-7:30pm and Saturdays 10am-11:30am

Intermediate Rowing 

Once you complete Learn to Row, you will head to Intermediate to work on strength and stamina required for rowing. These classes are the same practice time as Learn to Row on T/TH.

Practices are held Tuesday and Thursdays 6pm-7:30pm

Things to Complete Before Class Starts:

Print, fill out, and sign all the waivers and medical release forms and bring them all printed, filled out, and signed to the first day of class.

All WRA rowers must pass a Float/Swim Test prior to rowing

  • Renew every 5 years.
  • WRA does not conduct swim tests.
  • Remember to get your paperwork signed by the life guard as you will not be allowed to row unless we have this form.
  • You can complete the test at a pool of you choice.
